Mar 30, AUSTRALIA (SUN) — ISKCON seen through the eyes of one riding in the bubble of content:
Ask the other thousand upon thousands of abused and ostracized Srila Prabhupada disciples, matajis, cows, ex-sankirtan devotees, gurukulis and first-time guests at a temple.
What is the sense of unity he is talking about? That they receive him as hero? I would like to know what his opinion would be, being one of the thousands abused and dispatched to the material world at a finger’s snap.
From where he stands he gives a pass in the ISKCON “test”.
“Not a hundred percent” but a pass, he says. What he does not do, and will never do, is face the other 95% — the huge problems, philosophical deviants and fracturization. He will swim and keep the clothes dry, like many other cowards failing in his primary duty: rectification of ISKCON.
No wonder he is one of the astray, and loves to keep it that way.
At least as long as that little sva-pratistha-lalasa is there.

Directions:
Basically you carry a small notepad (choose one the sheets fit in the game pockets) and a pen so you can annotate any action, project or idea; you write down one action per sheet.
The pockets are:
“Today” – this one you put the sheets you are going to do today
“Week” – the sheets you plan to do during the week
“Month” – the sheets you plan to do during the month
“Someday” – projects that you do not know when are you going to do, go here
“Hold” – actions you are waiting some response from others.
You review each morning the “Today” and “Week” pockets and rearrange them as needed.
You review “Month” pocket every monday.
You review “Someday” pocket the first of the month.
See how it is done here:

In this way everything is kept orderly and in place relieving you from a lot of anxiety.
The following is the four types of anarthas, taken from Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu-bindhu by Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura) Anarthas are of four kinds: (1) svarupa-bhrama (illusion about spiritual identity), (2) asat-trsna (thirst for that which is unreal; that is, material enjoyment), (3) aparadha (offences) and (4) hrdaya-daurbalya (weakness of heart)
Svarupa-bhrama is of four kinds: (1) sva-tattva- or jiva-svarupa-bhrama (illusion about one’s spiritual identity), (2) para-tattva-bhrama (illusion about the spiritual identity of the supreme absolute truth), (3) sadhya-sadhana-tattva-bhrama (illusion about sadhana-bhakti, the means of spiritual perfection, and sadhya, the object to be obtained by such sadhana, or in other words prema-bhakti) and (4) maya-tattva-bhrama (illusion about the Lord’s external energy, maya).
Asat-trsna is of four types: (1) varieties of desires for material enjoyment in this world, (2) desires for enjoyment in the higher planetary systems of Svargaloka, (3) desires for the attainment of the eight mystic siddhis. (4) the desire for impersonal liberation.
Aparadha is of four kinds: (1) offences towards Sri Krsna, (2) offences towards krsna-nama, (3) offences towards krsna-svarupa (the deity form of the Lord) and (4) offences towards the jivas (living entities who are infinitesimal particles of spirit belonging to the Lord).
Hrdaya-daurbalya is of four kinds: (1) tuccha-asakti (attachment for useless things), (2) kuti-nati (deceitful behavior. The word kuti-nati may be broken down into the constituent parts ku, bad or evil, and na or nati, that which is forbidden. In that case it would mean doing wicked deeds or doing that which is forbidden), (3) matsarya (envy) and (4) sva-pratistha-lalasa (desire for one’s own fame and prestige).
(The following is the six types of unsteady bhakti (anisthitha-bhakti) From Madhurya-kadambini by Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura)
Utsaha-mayi: A brahmana child, having just begun study of the scriptures, thinks he has immediately become a learned scholar worthy of everyone’s praise. Similarly, a person just beginning devotional service may have the audacity to think that he has mastered everything. This is called utsaha-mayi, or filled (puffed-up) with enthusiasm.
Ghana-tarala: The same child at times diligently engages in his studies, and yet at other times, due to inability to understand the schoolbooks or lack of real taste, is negligent. In the same way, a new devotee will sometimes practice the different forms of devotional service and at other times neglect them. Being sometimes diligent and at other times negligent, his endeavor is called ghana-tarala (condensed-dilute, thick-thin).
Vyudha-vikalpa: “Shall I just spend my life happily in family life, making my wife and children Krsna conscious and worshipping the Lord? Or should I give them all up and go to Vrndavana to perfect myself by engaging full time in hearing and chanting with no distractions? Shall I wait till the last stage, after enjoying all sorts of pleasures and I’ve finally understood that the whole material world is simply a forest fire of affliction? Or is it better that I renounce right now? In this way, the mind spends time vacillating between the life of renunciation and household life considering the different options. This is called vyudha-vikalpa, or extensive speculation.
Visaya-sangara: Seeing that material enjoyment is forcibly carrying him away and impairing his steadiness in serving Krsna, the devotee resolves to renounce his addictions and take shelter of the holy name. But many times his attempts at renunciation often end in enjoying what he’s trying to renounce. This on-going battle with his desires for sense enjoyment from former habit, where he sometimes meets with victory and sometimes with defeat, is called visaya-sangara, or struggle with sense pleasure.
Niyamaksama: Then the devotee will resolve, “From today I will chant such and such number of rounds of japa and will pay so many obeisances. I’ll also perform services for the devotees. I won’t talk about anything except the Lord, and I’ll give up all association with people who talk gossip.” Though the devotee makes such resolutions every day, he is not always able to carry them out. This is called niyamaksama, or inability to follow rules. Visaya-sangara is the inability to give up sense enjoyment, while niyamaksama is the inability to improve his devotional service.
Taranga-rangini: Finally, it is well-known that the very nature of bhakti is to be attractive, thus many people become attracted to the devotee. And, as the old adage goes, “By the public’s attraction one becomes wealthy.” Bhakti produces much opportunity for material gain, worship, and position (labha, puja, pratistha). These are weeds around the creeper of bhakti. Seeking one’s pleasure (ranga) amidst these weed-like facilities, which are but small waves (taranga) in the ocean of bhakti, is called taranga-rangini, delighting in material facilities. (Madhurya-kadambini pages 15-18]
Dear prabhus,
Hare Krsna! Please accept my humble obeisance. All glories to Srila
Prabhupada.
“The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but
because of those who look on and do nothing.” Albert Einstein.
His Grace Kusakratha prabhu was not a person who did nothing.
Since the day he joined Srila Prabhupada’s Hare Krsna movement Kusakratha
prabhu was a tireless worker against evil. Remaining a brahmacari throughout
his entire Krsna conscious career and following in the footsteps of Srila
Prabhupada and the previous acaryas, Kusakratha prabhu produced an immense
body of literature for the benefit of the world by translating into English,
hundreds of books written by our preceding acaryas. I am sure that many of
these books have also been translated into other languages for the welfare
of persons of those who do not read English. The subject matter in these
‘gems’ is so relishable as to make one forget one’s material existence.
Kusakratha prabhu received formal initiation in New York on July 21/22 1971
although he had alreday surrendered (the REAL initiation) before that. Srila
Prabhupada said,
Prabhupada: “Kusakratha. Kusakratha. You know the rules and regulations?
What are they”?
Kusakratha: No meat-eating, no gambling, no illicit sex, uh, no
intoxication.
Prabhupada: “Which you like best? (laughter) Which of them”?
Kusakratha: You are reading my mind, Srila Prabhupada.
Prabhupada: (laughs) “All right. Don’t do that again”.
We wrote a homage glorifying our illustrious godbrother Kusakratha prabhu
when we first found out that he had cancer some years ago. We wanted HIM to
know that we appreciated him and his unflinching service to Srila Prabhupada
BEFORE he left his body.
We met Kusakratha prabhu in 1979 in Los Angeles and he gave me a gift
although we were unknown friends at that time. It was the Sri
Nityanandastakam which is so well-known now. That was the beginning of his
translation
In later years it became known to me that some of the leaders within the Los
Angeles community were causing great inconvenience to our dear godbrother
Kusakratha prabhu by trying to have him forcibly removed from his apartment.
This went on for a long time and ultimately he took shelter of Sri Krsna’s
dhama in BRndabana.
During those Los Angeles times he underwent a lot of criticism, ridicule and
censure from those godbrothers of his who were supposedly “in power”. He was
also looked down upon and criticized by others who were envious of his
prolific writings. Now of course, some of those people will say kind words
at his passing.
Kusakratha prabhu was always considered an eccentric personality by those
who prefer to unthinkingly follow the leader (the ‘Sheeple’). But isn’t that
always the case with a genius? It would be far better then, for us to
realize that genius and befriend him when he is among us, than to simply
speak some laudable words at his funeral. How long will it take us to adopt
the culture and behavior of real vaisnavas and for that behavior to actually
shine in our hearts? Better to relinquish the struggle for corporate ascent
now and strive for purity of heart by recognizing the great souls like
Kusakratha prabhu while they are among us.
When Srila Prabhupada was physically among us, the majority of his disciples
always considered themselves as simply the servants of the Acarya. None that
I knew, ever thought of themselves as ‘gurus’. We were all just here to help
the Acarya push on his mission. Yet after Srila Prabhupada’s tirobhava,
there was (and still is) a mad rush to acquire the coveted positions of
guru, (or GBC, TP, etc). Kusakratha prabhu NEVER had that in his mind. He
never wanted followers or disciples or a leadership position and in fact
shunned desires for prestige or honor. He was always content to remain the
faithful servant of Srila Prabhupada, acknowledging that Srila Prabhupada is
ALWAYS here… for those servants who can understand that. Kusakratha prabhu
simply continued hearing, chanting and serving, just as he had during Srila
Prabhupada’s physical presence. Why should anything change? At death (and
after) there is no meaning to ‘GBC, guru’ or anything, other than
‘Krsnadasa’.
Death, like old age and disease, will surely overtake us all at some near
future point. When I visited Kusakratha prabhu in September last year we had
a nice sanga together and he told me how the throat cancer was affecting
him. He could not speak for long, because he said that that made him weaker.
But the amazing thing is that he was in no pain from any of the cancer. And
I have heard that that was still the case!
What more could anyone ask for than a life devoted to Srila Prabhupada’s
service and a painless death? It is obvious that Radharani and SRila
Prabhupada were very pleased with their humble servant, Kusakratha prabhu.

Ay, cuanto dolor… pobre águila y pobre gallinita.

A series of articles on the Spanish yatra by dasanudas Jagannatha Mishra – http://jaganat.wordpress.com
During 1988 while Vedavyasa dasa was in charge of the spanish BBT, I offered myself to help out. I guessed that with my knowledge and experience in english language I would happily help in translation work. But at that time there was another full time service in the BBT for bhaktas and people like me.
The whole sanskrit texts from SB and the whole bengali from CC had to be keyed in.
At that time they were using a compuserve machine and all was done very much by hand, like the letter “m” with the dot below it had to be entered as a combination of keystrokes (3 or 4 keystrokes for every specially punctuated letter).
So, you can imagine how tedious and slow the whole process was.
I was beginning to work with computers and I figured out that somewhere else somebody had to do this work to be able to print the books with the latin rendering of the sanskrit, so in a trip to Switzerland I asked Ramakantha Prabhu (computer expert there) if they had the sanskrit and bengali stored. After 15 mins he handed me a few diskettes with the whole thing on it. Wow! I though, what a nice thing, I was right!
On my return to Spain I handed over the diskettes to Vedavyasa and after some time I asked him how was it going.
He told me that the diskettes were in another operative system format and were unusable.
Hmmm… I took a look in my own copy of it and with my poor knowledge of computers I again figured out that it was worth to try to convert the unusable characters to usable by means of a program.
I was no expert at that time and took me a few days to do a macro program that made usable all the sanskrit and bengali material for the translators to just add to their work.
The translators just had to convert it with one click and there they had the roman transliteration with all the special punctuation and all.
I received not a small “thank you” a pat on the shoulder or just a haribol. Rather I was made feel like I was on the wrong path.
Vedavyasa was not very keen to speed up the translation work and that is understandable in a way cause he was getting nice monthly amount of aprox 1000 $ (at that time not bad at all) wage for his work.
A devotee working at the BBT with him confirmed to me that everything (like the photolites layout, etc) was being delayed on purpose by Vedavyasa as much as possible.
So, I started to be an “enemy”. Just see how low one can become for money.
Another instance is when I as book distributor was seeing how the books were being printed in Malaysia or one of this countries and were of poor quality (including pages falling apart and fourth class paper type).
I asked if we could not print in Spain to check the quality firsthand and many other obvious advantages.
I was told that the price here in Spain was much higher and that was the way to go.
I asked permission from Yadunandana Prabhu at that time in Barcelona, to investigate prices in town.
In just 3 days I got same price as Malaysia or whatever was the country we were printing.
And that without even pressuring mercantile politics on the printing company.
I presented the prices of one big printer in Barcelona and Vedavyasa came from Alicante to get in touch with the printing press company.
Of course the quality was superb and they were presenting a sample volume before the actual printing, so they had the BBT OK.
To my surprise he signed using the same price sample as they gave me. I though that with a little pressure and our distribution capability he could lesser the price a lot, as I did not really got into mercantile operation with them.
A friend of mine, business expert told me that probably he lessen the price with the printer but that became his “commission”. A common practice in the “karmi” world that I did not know. Anyway, the price was oficially the one I obtained with a single unofficial visit to the printer.
After that, I wanted to visit BBT in Alicante and I actually went there, only to find Hanuman das (second aboard at that time) blocking the entrance and telling me that the “director” Vedavyasa did not allow me entrance and that after a long trip from Barcelona.
It is very curious that after a few years, Hanuman took over the BBT in a political not very nice manner and got Vedavyasa out of his post.
Curiously, Vedavyasa blames me of his demise at Hanuman hands. I was abroad for several years after my “findings” and during his fall from BBT in charge, so I wonder what was my “role”.
After years of mismanagement, Spanish BBT finally has been shutdown by the BBT trustee Madhusevita das, cause for every million Hanuman had 2 million in expenses.
Now, that is a great management. And still the oligarchy is on, Hanuman is getting some salary for “I don’t know what service he does”. Could somebody please explain?
When he shipped books to me, I always paid more that I should just because he did not want to take any struggle to do it, like the last shipment I had to pay 150 euros more just because he did not want to go to the Mail service himself, he got the shipment taken at his door (me paying the extra of course).
By the way I am not going to pay what I still owe, am not into inflating their pockets anymore.
Now Vedavyasa das claims to be the absolute authority of Malaga temple. He himself told me that he does not care about swamis and GBCs cause he is godbrother bla bla.
Such a separatist is a real threat for ISKCON unity if you are searching for one.
No respect or acknowledging of anybody is a characteristic of the mode of ignorance.
Under the mode of tamo guna, one thinks himself the best devotee and has no capability or intention of being checked by anyone. He likes to live alone and only can deal with persons that somehow respect or adore him as authority.
to be continued…

“…one significant development of ISKCON has been the gradual realignment of the movement to be seen as a sectarian part of the broader religious category of ‘Hinduism’. This development was not only a theological and categorical shift, but also had very important political consequences…” (Multiculturalism and Minority Religions in Britain: Krishna Consciousness, Religious Freedom and the Politics of Location by Malory Nye, p. 27). All emphases added.
The title of this article is a dual-compilation formulated by combining direct quotations from the text of the above-cited book as quoted on pages 140 and 32, respectively. To make Krishna consciousness seen as part of Hinduism turns the meaning of Srila Prabhupada’s movement upside down. Besides the above-mentioned ones, the main negative consequence for this gradual and insidious deviation is the creation of just another apasiddhanta, fully qualified to be considered part of Hinduism-but not part of the Vaishnava disciplic succession.
“ISKCON leaders have instead promoted an interpretation that they are (almost) synonymous (with Hinduism), and that Krishna consciousness can be definitely placed within this (Hindu) religious culture. In the majority of their public statements, ISKCON have been very clear in saying that they are most definitely Hindu…” (pp. 31-32) (All emphases added; the parenthetical “(almost)” was in the text.)
To interpret means to change. To make public statements that Krishna consciousness is Hindu is to bring Lord Caitanya’s movement down to the mundane plane for the purpose of public approval. This is a foolish delusion and Maya’s trick; the trap was set, and the “ISKCON” leaders walked right into it.
“…the model of Krishna consciousness that they (devotees) had envisaged… at the time of initial conversion needed to be contextualized within a wide and very rich picture of social development that was rooted in Bengali society and Hindu/Vaishnavite theology and philosophy.” (p. 17) All emphases added.
The model that the real workers envisaged was not changing the thing into something it was never meant to become.
“…a shift from ‘the temple to the congregation’ is perhaps one of the most important sociological changesthat has occurred within ISKCON.” (P. 20) All emphases added. “A particular motivating factor behind this recognition, beyond the maturity and skills which many of these congregational devotees could bring to their temple, was the fact that many were in salaried employment (‘in the world’), and so were potential financial benefactors …” (p. 20) All emphases added. “The role of the congregation is to financially and socially support the temples and core activities of the movement… the congregation is one of the places where former temple residents should be expected to go…” (p. 21) All emphases added. “…if they decide not to take on a leadership role within the ‘CLERGY’… (then) the crucial principle of this scheme is that ‘anyone joining the temple’ does not stay there…” (p. 21) All emphases added.
Cha-ching! The shift was to change everything into an ecclesiastical bureaucracy (“clergy”) and revenue machine, turning those who would not directly partake of this corruption into money-surrendering karmis in order to provide facility and a comfortable livelihood for the vested “ISKCON” priesthood. This eventually has devolved into an institutionalized situation in most temples, and now newcomers are “expected” to leave the temples, the sooner the better. In 1986, Srila Prabhupada revealed to one of his early disciples the essence of this scheme:
“It’s church! It’s church! It’s church!”
“…(eventually) a process of routinising his (Prabhupada’s) charismatic authority into the bureaucratic institution of the GBC… would be the only effective machinery for preventing the disintegration…” (pp. 15-16)
“Many of these non-Hindu (and non-Indian) devotees wish to retain the internationalism of ISKCON, and see the primary purpose… to preach…”
“This perspective is largely justified by passages of Prabhupada’s own teachings, in which he makes a clear point about distinguishing ISKCON from Hinduism, clearly stating that Krishna consciousness is not Hindu. For him, this ‘Hinduism’ was a hodgepodge, a khitchari of religious beliefs and practices which misrepresent and distort the Vedic teachings…” (p. 30)
All emphases added here, as well as in the immediate section just previous to this one. The parenthetical was in the text. There is one exception here regarding the emphases, however: The statement “Krishna consciousness is not Hindu” contained the emphasis in the text itself.
The meaning of this section is self-evident and requires no further elucidation whatsoever.

“Regarding the Hindu community: Don’t expect anything very wonderful from them, as we have got experience in Montreal — they have come in the foreign countries to earn money. As such, you cannot expect any cultural contribution. So you will tactfully deal with them, and whenever possible, vehemently protest against their foolish ideas. But you should try to support your statements on the strength of Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita. Best thing will be to avoid them as far as possible. I am concerned to preach this gospel amongst the Europeans and Americans, and I am not at all interested to preach amongst the Indians, because they have now become hodge-podge, due to so many years of subjugation by foreigners, and having lost their own culture.” Letter to: Gurudasa — Seattle 29 September, 1968
“Regarding the Hindu centers in the foreign countries, none of them are bona fide. There is a similar hodge podge center in London. Actually Hindus and non-Hindus everyone is at the present moment out of touch of the real science of spiritual knowledge. Everyone is going under some religious badge only, so it is very difficult to deal with them unless they are very much serious to understand the science of God. Everyone of the Hindu community in the Western world has got some very good feeling for me because superficially they are seeing that I am spreading Hindu religion, but factually this Krishna Consciousness movement is neither Hindu religion nor any other religion. It is the function of the soul. So even though the Indian Hindus are very much inclined in my favor, so far I have experience it is very difficult to turn them into pure devotees. Letter to: Jayapataka — Los Angeles 17 April, 1970
These so-called Hindus are generally impersonalists, and we do not want to have anything to do with them. Better we stick to our own standard, and eventually they will all come to us for learning what is God. Letter to: Giriraja — Paris 22 July, 1972
We cannot agree to make a mixed up association without any authorized principles. So far as Hindus are concerned, they are not fixed up in one principle. Under the circumstances, do not be misled that because some of the Hindus are taking interest in this movement, they are of the same opinion. Letter to: Mukunda — Seattle 1 October, 1968
Although posing as great scholars, ascetics, householders and svamis, the so-called followers of the Hindu religion are all useless, dried-up branches of the Vedic religion. They are impotent; they cannot do anything to spread the Vedic culture for the benefit of human society. The essence of the Vedic culture is the message of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Caitanya-caritamrta Adi 12.73 Purport
There is a misconception that the Krsna consciousness movement represents the Hindu religion. In fact, however, Krsna consciousness is in no way a faith or religion that seeks to defeat other faiths or religions. Rather, it is an essential cultural movement for the entire human society and does not consider any particular sectarian faith. This cultural movement is especially meant to educate people in how they can love God.
Sometimes Indians both inside and outside of India think that we are preaching the Hindu religion, but actually we are not. One will not find the word Hindu in the Bhagavad-gita. Indeed, there is no such word as Hindu in the entire Vedic literature. . . . . The Krsna consciousness movement has nothing to do with the Hindu religion or any system of religion. Mar 10, MONTREAL, CANADA (SUN) — A friend sent a transcript of a Srimad-Bhagawatam class (3.1.13) delivered by HH. Bhakti Caru Svami in Mayapura dhama on February 12, 2007. The Maharaja concludes his discourse as follows:
“Now that the GBC meeting is going on, as a member of the GBC body, I can assure you, I can tell you that our movement is progressing in a very wonderful way. All the auspicious signs are there. The way things are happening, the way the GBC’s are guiding this movement is very, very positive, very auspicious.” “In a few days, our GBC Chairman, along with the GBC body will present the results of our GBC meetings. You will get to know that at that time. In short I can tell you that there are many wonderful things happening today. The progress of this movement is assured. This movement, ISKCON movement, the association of devotees worldwide that has been created by Srila Prabhupada, this institution is being very nicely protected by the leading members of this movement. They are paving the way for its wonderful progress in course of time.”
To those who might be inclined to disagree with his assessment the Maharaja offers this advice: “We become envious. Why do we become envious? We become envious by seeing how the others are excelling. The others are becoming greater. The others are progressing, they are being glorified, they are becoming so qualified. And we become envious, ‘Why not me?’ The heart becomes so much afflicted and tormented, ‘Why the whole world is glorifying him, why not me? Why don’t they see how great I am?’ Just be patient and tolerant. In course of time, Krsna will glorify you also. Krsna is glorifying him or her today tomorrow Krsna will glorify you. So don’t be impatient. Be tolerant. Everyone will have his heyday.” (more…)
